HISTORY
This vineyard sits directly in front of the cliffs that were formed by the actions of miners hunting for gold. These actions continue to influence the wines that this vineyard produces. This and the Templars Hill Vineyard below were both developed by local identities Bill and Shirley Macalister along with David Speight and Arthur Anderson in 1995.

Soils
The Pipeclay Terrace soils are very varied. In parts they comprise extremely coarse Bannockburn soils, prone to droughtiness and in other parts they comprise Scotland Point soils which have a heavy clay structure and are relatively impervious. Bannockburn soils have a very low water holding capacity while the opposite is true of the Scotland Point soils. The combination of these widely differing soils has meant that irrigation systems have had to be designed to handle the very different requirements of each soil type.
Varieties
This vineyard is planted exclusively in Pinot Noir, with a wide variety of clones - 5, 6, 13, 113, 115, 667 and 777.
