WBM Top Wines of the Year 2008

The reputation of Mt Difficulty’s Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs continues to build with both the 2005 Pipeclay Terrace and Long Gully Pinot Noirs named in WBM’s top Wines of the Year 2008.

Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Long Gully Pinot Noir 2005

“The first vintage ever bottled under this label, representing the third of the Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Trilogy, this is the equal of the best wines ever released by this estate. It is everything that New World Pinot Noir should be, with layers of perfumed complexity that very few ever achieve.”

Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Pipeclay Terrace Pinot Noir 2005

“Arguably the best of Mt Difficulty’s single vineyard trio, Pipeclay Terrace is among the most heroic Pinot vineyards outside of Burgundy. Only released as a single vineyard wine when it is up to the exacting standards of Matt Dicey, in ‘05 it lifted its own benchmark to a new level. It exudes aromas and flavours of delicate violets and red and black berries, giving it a regency glamour reminiscent of Vosne-Romanée. Mt Difficulty continues to push the boundaries of Pinot in Central Otago.”
