The “By invitation only” Challenge judged a total of 360 wines across 13 classes from the three nations and 135 were awarded either trophies, Double Gold or Gold medals.
New Zealand took six trophies, Australia five and South Africa two. The aggregate scores were extremely close being 483, 481 and 479 respectively showing the highly competitive nature of the Challenge.
Chairman Bob Campbell MW commended "While it is pleasing to note that New Zealand was as victorious in the wine judging room as it was on the rugby field it's worth noting that the three countries were separated by a margin that mathematicians would describe as "statistically insignificant". In effect there were three winners, not one, each with different strengths. The trophy results highlight each country's strongest suits."
